Real Genius Theory

Dice Patrick Cassels en su blog 10 year old movies:

Most fascinating, though, a decade has also proven Down to You to be another example of the “Real Genius Theory” of teen movie’s fickle stardom, which states that a given actor in a teen comedy playing the crazy friend (X), given a few years’ time (T), will prove infinitely more successful than the film’s actual star (Y). The lead of Real Genius was technically Gabriel Jarret, but it was his wild and unpredictable roommate Val Kilmer who would go on to fly jets with Tom Cruise.

Similarly, the stars of Down to You are technically Julia Styles are and Freddie Prinze Jr., but 10 years later their crazy friends Rosario Dawson and Ashton Kutcher are the ones starring in Sin City and fucking Demi Moore while Prinze Jr. fans wonder if the six aired episodes ABC’s Freddie will be released on DVD. Thus proving, once again, (XT) > Y, just like Wiley Wiggins vs. Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused, Ethan Embry vs. Seth Green in Can’t Hardly Wait, and Jeremy London vs. Jason Lee in Mallrats did.
A rare exception to this rule is Risky Business. And to be honest I’ve always considered Curtis Hanson and Bronson Pinchot to be more famous than Tom Cruise.

Saul Rosenbear.

Jenna: What, you never pretended to be a bride when you were a little girl?
Liz: I did, I just never romanticized it.
(flashback to young Liz holding two teddy bears)
Young Liz: This is my husband, Saul Rosenbear, and this is his son Richard, from a previous marriage.
(flash forward to present day)
Liz: And then he cheated on me, with a lamb.

Rayada.

Come l'acqua sei fresca.
Forse mi ricordi i limoni delle isole,
quelli che non si trovano al supermercato.
La terra è rossa
proprio lì dove
trovo il tuo sapore
e mi perdo
mi perdo nel vapore
del tuo singhiozzo.

Tu sai come farmi sorridere,
tu sai
come farmi sorridere,
tu sai.

Indescribably monotonous and unrenewed.

It is not inertia alone that is responsible for human relationships repeating themselves from case to case, indescribably monotonous and unrenewed: it is shyness before any sort of new, unforeseeable experience with which one does not think oneself able to cope.

High Fidelity.

"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

Turutururuu, I'm no superman.

Elliot: What's wrong?
Carla: It's personal.
Elliot: Why won't you ever open up to me? I came to you when I thought I had a broken tailbone and it was just a really bad pimple!
Carla: It's a sex thing, okay?
Elliot: You mean like a gender issue or like intercourse? Because I'm book-smart on both!

Fonética, la rama sexy de la gramática.

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.

Seasonal.

No pasé durmiendo el invierno
para que el verano sea así,
para pasar la primavera sin amor...

Sigo bancando a Arctic Monkeys.

You showed me my tomorrow
Beside a box of matches
A welcome threatening stir

My hopes of being stolen
Might just ring true
Depends who you prefer

If it's true you're gonna run away
Tell me where
I'll meet you there

Am I snapping the excitement,
If I pack away the laughter
And tell you how it feels

And does burden come to meet ya
If I've questions of the feature
that rolls on your dream reel

The day after you stole my heart,
Everything I touched told me
It would be better shared with you

And you're hiding in my soup
And the book reveals your face
And there's a splashing in my eyelids
The concentration continually breaks
I did request the mark you cast
Didn't heal as fast
I hear your voice in silences
Will the teasing of the fire
be followed by the thud?

And the jostling crowd
You're not allowed

to tell the truth

And the photo booth's a liar

And the sharpened explanations
But there's no screaming reason to enquire

I'd like to poke them in their prying eyes
With things they'd never see if it smacks them in their temples

Lopre.

See that boy he looks so fine
But he's got a girlfriend, my oh my

Go, go, go!

I'm gonna hit her in the head
I'm gonna knock her down
I'm gonna drag her by the hair all over town
I'm gonna get get get get rid of that girl
I'm gonna get get get get rid of that girl
I'm gonna get get get get rid of that girl tonight

Related to writer's block, this is when you cannot, for the life of you, pick up a book and read it. Sure, you may be able to read a paragraph or two, or maybe even a page, but you don't retain anything of what you just read or have the attention span and/or will to go on. This is common for those who have ADD, are in possession of garbage literature, or are just so exhausted from having to read so many books during school/college that reading anything else, even for pleasure, has become impossible. To those who love to read, this is worse than heart disease and cancer combined.

Eddie - Hey, man, I see you're reading McCarthy's The Road. Nice.

Nerdlinger - I'm trying to read it, but I got this damn reader's block! I'm 20 pages in but I don't remember anything. Fuck!

Eddie - Poor bastard.
